Product Details

This iconic 1955 Norman Norell couture dress exemplifies his signature blend of couture level quality with quintessentially American style; elegant in its simplicity. The exact same design was gifted to The Metropolitan Museum of Art by Lauren Becall. The fabric used is of the highest-quality black chantilly-lace. The irridescent sequins are individually hand-sewn, which must have taken days to complete. The bodice is a flattering sculpted sleeveless with a long, lean nipped hourglass waistline. I love the scalloped full-skirting which totally channels "Old Hollywood" glamour. As pointed out in the book "Couture: The Great Designers", Norell had a profound influence on the ready-to-wear industry and on younger American designers by insisting that off-the-rack clothing be as fine as made-to-order. The masterful design and superb quality of this garment more than meets his exacting standards.

Measurements
Bust: 33-34 inches
Waist: 24 inches
Hips: Free Sweep
Total Length: 53 inches

This Norman Norell garment is in excellent condition with no rips, stains or holes. Perfectly working back-zipper. Only sign of age is a few missing sequins. Though this label is missing from this garment, a garment from the same collection is archived at the MET. Priced accordingly. A wearable investment piece that will only go up in value.
